OK,
I am not usually one to speak to much on my political thoughts to strangers but this time I think it is important enought to let others know that all of us are not of the same thoughts.
This is an email note I sent to friends and others now am making it available to all who read or may read my BLOG:
I have followed the current Presidential race from it’s beginning: Listening to the candidates, their spokespersons and media commentators. I have read what the columnists and the editorial page pundits have to say. And always I asked myself, “Which one of these candidates would be the best qualified to; first, lead this nation and second, do what is right for me and YOU.” Which one will have the will and the persuasion to lead us out of the Iraq quagmire that George Bush is so proud to have plunged our nation into. Which one will have the wisdom to rescue the nation’s middle class from the abyss that this administration has created with their tax cuts for the wealthiest individuals and the large corporations? And I ask which one will do for me and YOU what should be done to help us gain an equal footing in what this country has to offer and ensure safety and freedom for all peoples of this nation share.
Do not misunderstand what I am saying. Please pay close attention to these areas of concern: Employment, education, healthcare, housing, judicial administration, financial access, political access and public facilities.
Do any of these areas concern you? Do you have questions as to whether you are affected by decisions made at the very top of our government that hinder you or hinder others? If you have no concern, do not bother to read any further. Simply delete this mail and pardon my intrusion.
However, if you feel that at least some of the above subjects listed are being manipulated to the detriment of yourself and/or others, my question to you is: Do you think Hillary Clinton (if elected to be president) will provide leadership that would be in YOUR best interest?
Again, if your answer is yes, you may stop reading and pardon my intrusion. However, if your answer is no, the next question should be answered very carefully and with much thought. Then after evaluating your answer, I would like for you to send this email to everyone in your email circle.
This final question is: Why have you not voiced to everyone you know, the importance of voting for Barack Obama? Certainly, he represents what is best for the nation, including YOU. Some of the reasons he is the best candidate are answered by these questions or statements: (you should read this article before you continue) http//wwwbarackobama.com/about
1. Why is it that African Americans make up the highest percentage of the unemployed? Which candidate will best address this problem?
2. I believe many problems can be solved through education. The dropout rate among African American childres is above 70%. How does this affect YOU and YOUR family?
3. Healthcare is more costly to African Americans (who have less access) than any other group. Why?
4. Did you know that access to quality housing (anywhere YOU can afford to buy) depends on a lot more than credit?
5. Getting a foot up in any business may mean getting financial support. Are YOU now or have you been, affected by a denial of credit?
6. One in three African Americans have someone in their family or among their associates involved in the prison system. Do you?
Why?
7. No matter where you live, there are public facilities that are not patronized by African Americans. Why not? They pay for them.
8. Do you participate in the political process at any level? Over 85% of African Americans do not because they feel unwelcome. Do you?
9. Did you know that over 70% of African American families are headed by single females and over 50% of them have children? Do you care?
10. A recent study found that African American children still choose white dolls over dolls of color because they think the white dolls are “prettier”. What do you think?
11. AIDS is an international killer of Africans and Africans in Diaspora. Are you concerned that one in five African or African of decent are affected?
Now, which candidate would understand the above questions and how to solve such complex problems? After all, many of these problems were manufactured as long ago as 1619.
National defense is always the first priority of any president. After that, the President must ensure the welfare of the people and make sure the republic is functioning properly. How he does that affects all people. From bitter experience we know that education and participation in the political process are necessary ingredients. Some segments of the population may be inadvertently (or purposely) held back while other segments may be “pushed ahead”. This is not new. I personally believe that Barack Obama will do what is necessary for the country AND for all citizens to participate in the blessings of this great democracy. I believe he will act as Lincoln did in 1865 by passing laws that were in the best interests of the United States. Or as Truman did in the 1950s, setting the way for the military services to be a true representation of all our citizens and as Johnson did by signing legislation to finally make it possible for all citizens to begin to participate in the education and political processes.
I will be supporting Barack Obama and I believe, if you pay attention to the facts, you will too. He will include YOUR best interests in his agenda. I urge you to pass this message on to all the people that you know.
